The URC was founded by Fran Rahn and Laura Passanita to focus attention on the Ukrainian Orphans. To accomplish this the URC works closely with local churches and other non profit organizations, locally and in Ukraine. “It is our desire to see children without families touched by the love of Jesus Christ and their spirits be filled with hope for their future,” said Fran and Laura, the URC’s founders.
The URC works to raise awareness for Ukrainian Orphans by focusing on Child Hosting Programs, Missions Trips to Ukraine, and International Adoption. Each program is designed to show the children who may feel unwanted that someone cares and that they are special, even if they are 4,000 miles away.
The Child Hosting Program operates as either a summer or holiday opportunity for a small group of Ukrainian children to experience life in a family setting in America. This is a once in a lifetime dream for these children, many of whom have never been outside their own city.
The Missions focus is designed to send small groups to Ukraine to spend time in the orphanages with the children one-on-one as a way to get to know them and their way of life. Through sharing the love of Christ, conducting Vacation Bible School, and various other activities, the missions strive to bring hope into their lives. While visiting in Ukraine the URC also provides humanitarian aid such as clothing, shoes, school supplies and sports equipment. During the Christmas season the URC hosts the Christmas Shoebox Campaign where gift-wrapped shoeboxes full of goodies are sent to each child.
